BKc GRAND Re-opening...

Because I'm in the midst of revising a 7-page paper and trying to write a poem simultaneously, please check out the BKc Grand Re-opening recap and pics on their wonderful blog: BKc (you may recognize a few faces ;) )

Their pics will probably justify the night better than my crummy ol' Canan SD 750 anyway. In short, the night was a success and there was a great turnout. The shop was constantly packed inside and out. We bumped into Gitamba from The Retrospective and had a great chat with Alex from Black Scale.

Oh yeah...and we walked by Super7 to see if we would have a chance at meeting Johnny Cupcakes. We were greeted by a LOOOOONG line that we didn't even bother trying to see the end of; although we did see him through the window. Dude is famous...just more inspiration for the Rudes I guess...here's a recap of his night in San Francisco:

WARNING: Womenswear

Everytime we speak to people about our ambitions to not only do a men's line, but a women's line, we always recieve the same warnings: womenswear is almost impossible to do, especially in streetwear, women are very hard to please (duh), and it's hard to compete with the Forever 21s and H&M's (and soon Uniqlo). But, I didn't want to limit Rude Etiquette to anything; and if I started Rude without the hopes of doing womenswear, the limitations would already be there.

Unfortunately, at this stage of the process, trying to focus on two SEPERATE lines is difficult, time consuming, and most importantly, costly. That's why up until this point our men's shirts and women's shirts have been the same graphic, just in men's and women's sizes. But, I've been hoping to start developing graphics that are used only for the women's line. The Rudes are also in talks about getting some accessory items out there, i.e. rings, necklaces, etc. I believe that when we get into the cut and sew world, the women's line will really start to see the light of day and our visions can really be achieved with it. It will also give Ali Rude a bit more to do : ).

But, as of late, we all have been collaborating on a shirt that we can hopefully put out before the summer that is going to be our first "girls-only" shirt. Because of our busy schedules (and I mean BUSY) it's hard for all of us to have meetings anymore and finish some things we need to in order to make the whole process of getting product and printing done easier. But, until the shirt drops, here's a little preview...this may or may not end up on the final product...but just to give you guys a little taste of where we are headed...

PS: Frankly Rude and I actually love the concept and graphics of this shirt so much, it may or may not strictly stay a women's shirt...so much for that! haha...but we'll see what the response is :)

Benny Gold Grand Opening/Afterparty

So, the Rudes found a way to make it to the Bennny Gold grand opening of his retail shop. It's located on 3171 21st St. in the Mission so please check it out if you have the chance. The event started at 2PM and we didn't get there until close to 6, so I'm guessing it died down a bit; although there were still a lot of people and the taco truck was still out front and good music was still being played. Frankly Rude and I made sure to get some tees in support of Benny (Ali couldn't considering all he carries is menswear). But, in all honesty, the Rudes felt a little out of place. First off, we don't personally know Benny (yet), we don't skate, and we didn't see any of the people we thought were going to be at the opening. But, Frankly did bump into an acquaintance: Ralph, who happens to work at the Purist Boutique in San Jose. This would be a forshadow of the night to come :).

After hitting up the shop, we were all VERY hungry; so, Frankly suggested Cha Cha Cha's, which was just down the block.

Unfortunately, because of it's popularity, we either had to find a seat at the bar or wait for an hour (although it seemed like there were many seats available...reservations i guess). And we could not sit at the bar because Ali Rude has yet to reach the tender age of 21. SO...instead we went next door to Charanga and were delighted to find that their food was AMAZING!

SANGRIA FOR D_RUDE AND FRANKLY RUDE! MmMmMmMm

NOTHING FOR ALI RUDE :(...(but that's not to say that she didn't have ANY alcohol for the night ;)

After a very satisfying dinner, the Rudes were going to call it a night and go to BJ's for a pazookie. BUT, on the way to the car we ran into Ralph and the Purist crew. So, we decided to stop by the afterparty for a bit, with Ali Rude not being able to get in as a concern. The afterparty was being held at Laszlo (next to it is Foreign Cinema which is supposed to be a very good, but expensive, restaurant). So, rolling deep with the Purist crew, we just walked into the lounge, hassel free (and home free for Ali!). It was great, we got to know the guys from Purist, all of them really great people. We talked to Kevin, the owner, about business, Rude Etiquette, the pitfalls of womenswear, and the evolution of Purist as a boutique and brand. It was all really good, and Richard, the Assistant Manager of the shop was very encouraging. So, if you're ever in San Jose, stop by the Purist Boutique and say what up to the guys! The Rudes will very soon!

Another great thing about hitting up the afterparty was running into Jerry of Bows & Arrows in Berkeley. As some of you may or may not know, Bows & Arrows is probably my favorite shoe store in the Bay Area. They provide the best selection of shoes and just a great clean aesthetic store wise. Anyways, I actually didn't know Jerry all too well before yesterday night. The biggest exchange I had with him before was just complimenting him on his shoe selection at the shop while I was buying a pair of Vans. But, Jerry is super chill and I probably had the best conversation about shoes I've EVER had with him. Sounds kind of dumb, but it was a very enlightening conversation. Keep in mind that there were other things talked about in the conversation haha...not just shoes! So, please check out the shop if you're ever in Berkeley and keep a lookout for their online shop!

By the end of the night we were all tired! But, we still craved some pazookie, and Frankly had never had one, so we HAD to go get some!

Rude Adventures: April 11, 2010

Yesterday Frankly Rude and I had a VERY rare day off together (Ali Rude had to work :( ) so we decided to hang out and have an unofficial meeting. We started it off with a 9:30AM meeting at work, then headed off in rainy weather for Berkeley where we had some great Thai food, hit up Bows & Arrows, and watched some traditional Filipino dance!

Then we headed into San Francisco with our eyes set on visitng Infinite SF. They're a new boutique that opened up in March on Hyde St. They carry brands like Flying Coffin and Amongst Friends that aren't really carried at other boutiques in the city.

The owners Jason and Randy are truly some class acts and just good people. They were very welcoming and we had a great chat with them about how they got started and about Rude Etiquette and just how the scene is today. They also have their own in-house brands Infinite and LIMBXLIMB, so they had some knowledge on how to build a brand as well. Talking with them just really makes me realize how much I really do love the streetwear community. As many of you know, Rude Etiquette is not striving to become a streetwear brand; but, because the community and people involved are so much more open and just overall nice, it's hard NOT to become associated with them. Jason said it best when he said that there is competition, but it's more of a friendly competition. Everybody knows everybody. The small streetwear boutiques are what the Rudes want to be about aside from great product: great customer service/interactions. I love visiting the BKc guys, Tom at INVS, Mega (if he's in town) at Black Scale and now I'll love visiting Infinite SF to see what's new in the store and chat it up with Jason and Randy. The Brooklyn Circus really does say it all "Experience Is Everything".

So check out the Infinite SF shop down on 646 Hyde St. or www.infinitesf.com. Hopefully we'll be doing some things together in the future! And get excited folks, we've got some really cool things coming up before the summer ;)

Mayer Hawthorne - I Left My Heart in San Francisco

Mayer Hawthorne is ending his two month tour in San Francisco at the Warfield on April 15th. There's a collabo Stones Throw x Huf x Freegums shirt going to be released on April 15th along with a heart-shaped flash drive with Hawthorne's cover of I Left My Heart in San Francisco on it. There's also going to be a release party for it at Eve's Lounge on 575 Howard St. from 10pm-2am...maybe the Rudes (at least me and Frankly) can hit it up.

I thought the song was covered beautifully by Hawthorne, plus it's about the greatest city on Earth(!!!). The video is also shot magnificently and shows some classic spots around the city.

My <3 will always be in San Francisco

I got North, got the East, got the West with me...

These are some great product pictures that my friend Qyel took and posted on his blog!(http://qyel.blogspot.com) Shout out to him! He recieved his Rude goods a few days ago and hopefully he'll help spread the Rude in Arizona! :)

I've also got a buddy out in the Boston area rockin a Rude shirt and we got people up and down California supporting the movement. It feels great to know that although we are proud to say we are a San Francisco/California based brand, that we can spread our vision to everyone everywhere! We may even have a presence in Canada soon (I <3 Canada)! I've got some fam up there who give me some great love and support!

Rude Etiquette may be a very small brand now, but we hope to do BIG things in the future. So, if you're with us now...believe me when I say that the Rudes truly appreciate your love and support as we fine tune the brand and try to get ourselves out there. I personally know the difference between a fan from the start and a bandwagon fan; and if you're reading this blog, you're a fan from the start. And even though we ultimately want those bandwagon fans, we'll always keep the Original Rudes close to our hearts! So thank you and keep a look out for some new product :)Summer is right around the corner and we know you guys want some Rude Etiquette to be sporting in the summer heat (or fairly warm weather for our Bay Area fam!)

The Rudetants (Happy Easter!)

HAPPY EASTER! I hope most of you enjoyed a nice Sunday off! I know the Rudes did! We took this rare opportunity to meet up and do some work! We finally had another meeting...it's getting harder and harder with our ever increasing busy schedules, but we made some ground up today. We are slowly completing steps to get our webstore up for you guys! We really want to get it up so that everybody can get one of our shirts hassel free! So please check back with us to know when the webstore will finally be up!

The big thing we got accomplished today was finally deciding on a launch date for Ali Rude's Rudetant blog! And we figured, why not TONIGHT?! Rudetants...Rude&Refined is going to be Ali Rude's voice within Rude Etiquette. On the blog you'll be able to see where we are headed with the women's wear line and also follow Ali's unique sense of fashion and just plain get to know Ali and the great person that she is :). We are very excited to add the blog to our repertoire. We want Rude Etiquette as a brand to be more than clothing, more importantly, more than just MEN'S clothing. We hope to grow and have a presence in all that the Rudes are interested in, whether it be design, music, or art. SO PLEASE FOLLOW THE RUDETANTS BLOG! There is a link up on the right hand corner of the blog...or check it at www.therudetants.blogspot.com! There should be a blog post up by tonight!
