WARNING: Womenswear

Everytime we speak to people about our ambitions to not only do a men's line, but a women's line, we always recieve the same warnings: womenswear is almost impossible to do, especially in streetwear, women are very hard to please (duh), and it's hard to compete with the Forever 21s and H&M's (and soon Uniqlo). But, I didn't want to limit Rude Etiquette to anything; and if I started Rude without the hopes of doing womenswear, the limitations would already be there.

Unfortunately, at this stage of the process, trying to focus on two SEPERATE lines is difficult, time consuming, and most importantly, costly. That's why up until this point our men's shirts and women's shirts have been the same graphic, just in men's and women's sizes. But, I've been hoping to start developing graphics that are used only for the women's line. The Rudes are also in talks about getting some accessory items out there, i.e. rings, necklaces, etc. I believe that when we get into the cut and sew world, the women's line will really start to see the light of day and our visions can really be achieved with it. It will also give Ali Rude a bit more to do : ).

But, as of late, we all have been collaborating on a shirt that we can hopefully put out before the summer that is going to be our first "girls-only" shirt. Because of our busy schedules (and I mean BUSY) it's hard for all of us to have meetings anymore and finish some things we need to in order to make the whole process of getting product and printing done easier. But, until the shirt drops, here's a little preview...this may or may not end up on the final product...but just to give you guys a little taste of where we are headed...

PS: Frankly Rude and I actually love the concept and graphics of this shirt so much, it may or may not strictly stay a women's shirt...so much for that! haha...but we'll see what the response is :)

  1. the graphic looks kind of large for a woman's shirt. Women don't really want these huge graphics plastered on their chest most of the time. It's about unique aspects like different elements to the shirt that make it unique from any old tee. I don't think I would wear that. Remember, women also havemore petite rrames most the time and can't carry around so much graphic on themselves without being overcome by it. I think you need to focus less on the actual graphics and more on the cuts and such. Maybe something that has slits in the back or those little metal things...i forget what they're called haha. Women want clothes that basically set them apart and make them look amazing and better than the other women. If you focus less on the graphics I think you'll do better than you expected. Oh and if you're doing this right before summer...why not make it more like a tank top or a halter something with a unique cut mentioned earlier. And ertaintly not in black...its summer, a lot of us are looking for lighter colors and summery looks.

  2. Thank you for your feedback! (whoever this is) And we definitely understand your concerns. But, again, this is just a concept and this may or may not end up on the final product; nor are the color schemes set in stone. This particular graphic that I decided to share is actually on the back of the shirt and not on the front, the front graphic is definitely not large and something much more elegant that the Rudes are excited about.

And as stated in the post, the ultimate goal is to eventually get into the cut and sew world; but at this point, we neither have the funds to make the clothes nor the contacts or time to find the right pattern makers to help make our ideas into actual clothes.

We have discussed everything you have expressed concern about and hopefully you'll bear with us as we are still in our infantile stage. But, if it makes any difference, we ARE throwing around concepts for tank tops! So please keep checking back with us! Thanks!
